About this project
An independent record of dental tourism outcomes
Dental Tourism Watch is a public-interest project that collects, verifies, and publishes patient-reported outcomes from dental treatment abroad. We are not affiliated with any dental clinic, tourism board, or treatment provider.
Why this exists
Dental tourism is a multi-billion dollar industry. Millions of patients travel abroad each year seeking treatment at a fraction of home-country prices. Most encounters go without incident. Some do not.
The information ecosystem around dental tourism is heavily skewed toward promotion. Clinic directories, comparison sites, and most online guides are funded — directly or indirectly — by the clinics they feature. There is no independent, structured record of what goes wrong, how often, or where.
This project exists to fill that gap. We are the other side of the ledger.
What we publish
We publish anonymized case reports submitted by patients, aggregated into country-level and treatment-level safety records. Each country profile shows reported complication rates, average severity scores, the most common complications, and estimated remedial costs — all derived from the community case database.
We also publish analysis articles and risk tools grounded in our case data, not in opinion or clinic marketing material.
What we are not
- We are not a medical authority. Nothing on this site is medical advice.
- We are not a complaints body. We cannot investigate individual clinics or compel action.
- We do not rank or endorse clinics. Absence from our database is not a recommendation.
- We are not a legal service. If you have suffered harm, consult a solicitor or equivalent.
Data limitations
Our data is community-reported and not independently verified. Cases are moderated for plausibility before publication, but we cannot confirm the clinical details of any individual report. Our statistics reflect the experiences of patients who chose to submit a report — not a random sample of all dental tourism patients. This introduces selection bias toward negative outcomes.
We publish our methodology in full so readers can assess the data themselves. See the methodology page.
Editorial independence
Dental Tourism Watch does not accept advertising, sponsorship, or referral fees from dental clinics or tourism providers. The project is sustained by the community that uses it. We have no commercial interest in the outcome of any treatment decision.
Contact and disputes
If you are a clinic or practitioner named in a case report and wish to respond or dispute a factual claim, we provide a right-of-reply mechanism on each published case. We take substantiated corrections seriously and will amend or remove content where a factual error is demonstrated.
For other enquiries, use the contact details in our terms of service.
